John Gurule-Head Boys Coach
John Gurule enters his 3rd year as the boys head coach for Ignacio High School. Prior to this role, he was the head wrestling coach and assistant track/field coach at neighboring Durango High School for 2 years. John primarily works with the throws and high jump athletes.
During his time at Durango High School, John was selected as the DHS Head Coach of the Year ('15), as well as CHSCA All-State Coach ('15).
When John arrived to Ignacio High School, he developed the districts first ever Indoor Track/Field club. The club travels to meets at University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and at Western State Colorado University in Gunnison, Colorado. The club hopes to add more meet locations in 2019.
In July of 2018, John hosted an regional Jumpers Camp bringing in NCAA Champion and Professional High Jumper Susan Jackson to provide instruction to area athletes. The camp had age participation from High School freshman to post collegiate athletes.
John is an Ignacio High Alum ('03). As an Ignacio athlete he was a multiple time state qualifier in wrestling and track/field. He broke and reset the school discus record multiple times. During 2003 in Class 3A he placed 6th in wrestling, 5th in shot-put, and 6th in discus respectively.
Post high school, he was a scholarship athlete at Western State Colorado University in Gunnison, Colorado for 2 years.
John is a graduate of Fort Lewis College ('17) majoring in Educational Studies and holds a teaching license in K-12 Physical Education.
His wife Sacena, has her undergrad from Fort Lewis College ('15) and a masters degree from California Baptist University ('16). In 2017 they welcomed their first child Nolan.

Marissa Duffey-Assistant Coach
Marissa enters her 2nd year as in assistant coach with the high school program. She primarily works with distance. She also is the head coach for the high schools girls cross country program. Marissa is a teacher at the middle school in the socials studies department.
